Fashion Icons
Fashion is constantly evolving.
Fashion is Art, it's constantly changing and evolving, we all have Icons and we should look to the past. I take lessons and draw inspiration from classic fashion icons like, Jackie Kennedy Onassis , Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Michelle Obama , Diahanna Carroll, Josephine Baker ,Coco Chanel and influencers .
The fashion industry continues to evolve and introduces us to new styles every season. The industry wouldn't be where it is today without Icons of the past. We all have different Icons as all of our tastes can vary from Jackie Kennedy too Twiggy. Look at the past , when we didn't have Instagram or any type of social media, these Icons wore what they wanted. I think this is why so many classic trends surfaced during this time. Fashion is personal and it's how we show the world who we are without speaking. I came to the realization that I navigate towards classic traditions with a bit of flare when it comes to fashion. These fabulous women became Icons because of the way they carried themselves which takes us to Confidence dressing. Fashion : selecting an outfit can be compared to assembling social armour. What we wear can have power over our minds.

Classic and SimplicityJackie Kennedy was in my opinion one of the most influential fashion Icons. She started more than a few trends, that still are on trend today. From oversized sunglasses, strapless gowns, Chanel suits, A-line dresses tailored shirts, capes, bucket hats and masculine pantsuits. I read once that her fashion Icon was Audrey Hepburn. Everyone fell involve with Jackies grace and style. Jackie had the ability to make even the most casual outfits look chic. She rocked the long coat look
WHITE ON WHITE ON WHITE She understood the power of the simple monochromatic look, This look of all white is still in fashion. She brought fashion into simplicity that was easy for women to copy. Fifty years later, women are still emulating Jackie Kennedy's Iconic style. Jackies look was minimal, modern and lady So many of us have that Audrey Hepburn breakfast at Tiffanys image in our head when it comes to fashion. Or it could be Madonna in her Vogue Video. We all have our own strong personal style whether its classic or eclectic fashion, so therefor our Icons will differ. Timeless ChicThe little black dress, big hat, sunglasses and pearls is the definition of sophisticated glamour. At any age we can dress simple and elegant. Vintage is a word that you hear, timeless simple pieces that are good quality become an investment . Think of Audrey Hepburn and her impact she had on fashion. Her little black dress she wore in Breakfast at Tiffanys and the little white dress she wore in Sabrina, these were so immaculately tailored and they're still stylish in 2021. This is timeless chic. So many of the staples we wear today were pioneered by Audrey in the 1950's. Look at covid the mix of comfort and style. Look at oversized white shirts that are so hot right now, Audrey wore these regularly again in the 1950's. Understated Elegance never dates. Understated elegance means ultra plain and simple pared down looks ,basics that suit suit. Combined or alone in outfits shout refined elegance. Timeless chic clothing is always an investment. Elegant Refined Style Fashion icons and timeless classic styles. So what does it mean to have timeless and classic style? Grace Kelly a master of chic minimalism, yet maintained an effortless elegant refined style. She is remembered for her poise, sensuality and dignified elegance. She choose clothing based on the style and quality. So if we're to learn from her, it would be to choose clothing that you love, flattering lines, tailored details and the perfect fit.
She mastered the art of looking chic in just simple twinset, Capri pants and a string of pearls. Graces minimal, yet elegant style allowed her beauty and style to shine through. This style has transcended through decades. When I look through old photo's she wore solid feminine colours, blue, white, pink and yellow. For accessories, she opted for less is more. I saw a picture with a monochromatic outfit which consisted of a tailored blouse, high waisted belted pants with a pattered scarf. It's an outfit that I wear regularly. Her minimal outfits are classic and never date. "I think it is important to see the person first and the clothes afterwards."Grace Kelly Coco ChanelYou cannot doe a piece about fashion icons and talk about Coco Chanel. She was a risk taker, fashion designer, business woman a fashion superstar. Chanel saw the needs and desires of women and designer her fashions around what women wanted. She defined the Modern Woman, her elegant and versatile fashions were made from durable fabrics. She found continuity and symmetry between the chest, waist and butt. Chanel played a huge role in defining the modern women; Independent, fashionable and unique. She believed that woman's clothing needed to be created by someone who wore it themselves, A favourite quote is " A Chanel women is not just a mannequin, she is someone who moves and works in the modern world". Chanel designed the little black dress in 1926, "a frock that all the world would wear". The style has become a wardrobe essential for every woman ever since. Her simple but elegant styles changed the course of fashion historyFinding Inspiration in the PastFashion always seems to be looking back, trends come and go but the influence of eras is constant. Fashion is often is often born from our ability to improvise. Look at after WW11, there was a shortage of fabric, so designers went to a shorter hem to save on fabrics. It's hard to say how inspiration happens, fashion combinations appear with time and through experiment. The 1920's and the flapper culture, emphasized short skirts and sleeveless tops. Coco Chanel introduced dropped or non-existent waistlines and straight sleeveless tops. This style is used as inspiration too many designers in 2021. The point. is sources of inspiration are all around us, |
